The New Work Mentor Grant Program supports the production of digital art by youth via mentorship with local media professionals. It is a major component of the ICA's Fast Forward program, and an initiative developed by RYMAEC (the ICA's Regional Youth Media Arts Education Collective), RAW Art Works and the Filmmakers Collaborative. The goal of the program is to facilitate the creation of new digital art by youth by providing committed students with the opportunity to receive mentorship for production.
You are a high-school aged media artist in the ICA Fast Forward program or the RAW Real to Real Film School and have an idea for a film, but you need a little help to make it work. You first submit three concepts using our application form letting us know what you want to produce and how. Alumni from your program s will review your concepts and provide feedback. From that feedback you develop one concept, and prepare a treatment and a pitch for our Speed Pitch Session!
All of the mentors and mentees meet for one night. Students and mentors will introduce themselves to each other, and then each student will pitch to each potential mentor for 1 minute. The mentor can then ask follow up questions. Once all students have pitched to all mentors, everyone fills out preference cards. If there is a match, you will be set up as a mentor/mentee team!
Then you're off... You will post updates to icateens.org on your production along the way while receiving encouragement and guidance from your mentor. When the piece is finished, it will be screened along with other work from this program.
You will submit to us via our application form:
• one-paragraph descriptions of 3 pieces you want to produce, along with supporting documents if you have them (script, storyboards, etc.)
• a description of the types of skills/experiences you are looking for in a mentor
• an artist statement and biography
The alumni reviewers will make comments based on your proposal. How feasible is your project? Does it show artistic merit? Is it clear? Does it demonstrate integrity? (The committee will not support any piece that degrades, denounces, or defames anyone or anything.)
