Video Project idea
I've been playing around with an idea for a final project, based somewhat on a dream I had about my late grandfather. I want to do a project on memories of someone who isn't there anymore, specifically on how a person's memories focus on the positives in their relationship.
Specifically, the film would be about a boy and his recalling of his relationship with a girl, who he was good friends with but struggled to get close to until, ultimately, they were broken apart by her death. The visual aspect will be a montage of shots cataloguing both the boy's memories of the relationship- which the film will focus on, by making these longer and more frequent, as well as having more camera angles for each shot (i.e., he remembers these points more vividly)- and his dealing with her death (visiting her grave, maybe going back to points visited in his memories but this time alone). The auditory aspect of the piece will be the girl reading a letter written to the boy. The letter will talk about how she felt about him and their relationship and, at the end of the film, it will be revealed that it was her suicide note. I will also perhaps have a few ambient sounds in the background, but they will not be related to the shots, moreso to the attitude of the point in the letter.
I have some ideas for specific shots. Shots of the two characters laughing, singing, running, all either in a warm light or with a yellow light filter. I also want to do a shot of the boy standing at her grave, with the camera looking up at him from slightly behind the gravehead. As another person walks into the shot, he places a bouquet of flowers down.
Another specific shot I want to use is one that would appear multiple times. The shot would be the two characters standing at a bus stop, at night, preferably as its snowing. Each time the shot is shown, the boy is standing closer to the girl, and at the end, he reachers for her hand. The final shot would be the boy standing alone at the bus stop, but wearing the girl's scarf. The shot would then be a closeup on the scarf, and then end.
I really like this idea, in that writing a monologue/letter is, for me, much better for developing and creating a character than through dialogue. I've also been interested in doing a project that tells a story in a nonlinear way, which this piece would achieve. It would also be much more manageable than the last video project I attempted, as there would only be three to four actors and I wouldn't need a person to do sound, as I would be able to do the sound separately.
This is, as I said, just an idea, but I'd really like to work on this and I'd love to hear your feedback.

Hey Robin! How exciting!
Hey Robin!
How exciting! Thank you so much for thinking ahead and already getting the ball rolling on your video project!
I definitely want to work on developing this more with you throughout your audio project if you don't mind chatting over this blog. (Of course I want you to spend a significant amount of time on your audio project still...) But I think this could be a super moving piece and if we spend some time planning it ahead of time you can make it tasteful and beautiful!
I am most interested in the twist you use to show that the voice over you are hearing is actually her suicide note. Very clever.
I am mostly curious at this point as to how you came up with this story. Where did the ideas come from. You mentioned your grandfather. You don't have to answer these questions but I think that it might help to shape this piece if we can pull from somewhere. You know what I mean?
Again I don't want to distract too much time from your audio project and school and blah de blah blah but if you could just keep this idea incubating, and maybe start writing up a monologue (letter) and storyboarding some of the montage in order of how you would want it to appear that would be an awesome and major next step!
Thanks for being such a power tank!
