Treatment
My piece will be an interview with Max Simon, a painter and sculptor at my school, but instead of focusing on only his artistic style, it will also be a representation of my style. It will be a very surreal project, using techniques like putting the "wrong" foley sound in for various actions, and pre-recording his answers, so his lips are out of synch. The actual format will be similar to most interviews, but some of the questions and responses will be very unusual. The similarities and differences between my style and his will be pushed to extremes, in order to compare and contrast our ideas. I am also planning to add some still images in at certain times, and at other times make the lighting over dramatic, or zoom in and focus on his lips while he is talking. Still, at other times it will be a normal interview.
This is mainly to show differences and extremes between people, and within their work.

Hey Jonah! There are two
Hey Jonah!
There are two things that I am very excited about with your project. 1. is your sound design. Especially hearing how SICK your audio project turned out I know you know how to make this cool. I think we are on the same page too with how interesting it is to use foley sound not to do anything too strange but just close enough to make it surreal. I like the idea of making some parts of the interview out of sync especially because visually it will be modeled after a very traditional and recognizable method of documentary. 2. is the backgrounds to the interviews. Because you are interviewing an artist about his art this gives you soooooo many props to use to design your background for when he is being interviewed. You can use some of his work to and other props to represent parts of his personality and story that might not come through or be mentioned in the interviews.
This is not THE strongest example of what I am imagining for your piece but there are some cool moves in this documentary about a butler that the documentarian grew up with. So he is interviewed in his house and I think it is an interesting angle and he is well placed in the frame. Also notice that behind him the room is filled with stuff to look at. What can you learn about this guy from what surrounds him? There are kitchen supplies and its a small skinny room so you can gather that he lives on a small budget and is alone. There is also a typewriter (part of the documentary is about how he is obsessed with midevil history and knights and kings and queens and types up the history into books for himself) but the most interesting part is how you are outside of the room looking in. The doorknob is out of focus in the foreground and there is a lot of distance between the camera and subject. Also I like how there are black frames thrown in while he is still talking. What do you think??
Can't wait to talk more!
