Treatment
After shopping for essential and preserved food, Lazlo locks himself up in a bathroom. The bathroom, absent of usual bathroom-ware, only has a cabinet filled with paper and a pencil above the cabinet, on its countertop. Lazlo sets aside his food and begins to write. While what most of what he writes remain obscured, he is seen writing the words, "be nicer." Each sheet of writing is stacked into the bathtub to the left of him; many thousands accumulate, almost spilling over the side of the bathtub. During his breaks from writing, Lazlo snacks on some of the food he bought. He does so often and every time he does, a rock bounces off the bathroom's window above him. Eventually his pencil runs out of lead and a rock pierces the bathroom window and lands on the bathroom floor. Afterwards, he looks at his bag of food and realizes that there is no more food left, which is when rocks begin pouring into the bathroom. He stands up and is knocked down by the rocks. He is soon buried by a mountain rocks. When the flying rocks cease, it becomes clear that Lazlo's bathtub of writings have been conquered by the mountain aside it.
Lazlo's experience is metaphor for the ultimate lack of impact of many artists' works - the rocks vs. his accumulation of writings. Even though Lazlo has dedicated his life towards his work by locking himself in his mind, his intended importance for his work is overshadowed by the reality that he ignored or locked himself out of.
Other interpretations are cool too. :D

David! This is a really
David!
This is a really interesting concept. I have read your blog entry a few times now to try and imagine how this will look and i am digging it more and more every time. It definitely helps me to understand how to approach this piece knowing your meaning and thesis behind it but I also agree that it is unnecessary to make this clear to your audience. This is just for me, Joe, and the class to help you workshop this along the way. In fact I think the more surreal and obscure it is the better! I just had some small questions about what you wrote...
What is the significance of him writing "be nicer"?
Does his writing accumulate in the tub in the form of finished pieces of paper or crumpled paper that he has discarded?
Do you plan on having any dialogue or voice over? (I think it is not needed but just wanted to check with you!)
Does Lazlo himself get buried by rocks or just his work?
Will the rocks coming through be animated? (remember in ALICE by Jan Svankmajer) or real time?
What was your inspiration for this? How did you come up with this idea? It reminds me a lot of Kafka in that silent, surreal, and erie kind of way!
I hope that we can keep talking about this because I think you will have to be really careful with how each symbolic action is presented. I'm so excited!
