the music video will showcase the band as well as the dancers.

~the story~

the dancers are together dancing, enjoying each other's company. there is a mob of aliens who continuously apear throughout the video randomly, trying to take the man away from the woman because one of the aliens have a crush on the woman. everytime the man escapes the aliens, pushes the lead alien out of the way, and goes back to dancing with the woman. finally the mob of aliens come back for the last time and carry the man out.... the video ends with the lead alien dipping the woman!

~alternate ending~

the mob of aliens come back back to watch the man and woman dance. the lead alien enters and makes gestures as if yelling at the others and walks over to the couple to cut in. the alien mob make gestures as if planning against their leader. the leader signals for them to come capture the man and the mob instead captures the woman so the man and the alien are then dancing. video ends with the alien dipping the man. the alien looks to notice it is the man not the woman and drops the man on the floor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuDE9vRZvg0 that is a video i'd like to somewat emulate , i like how the dancers are dancing with a simple background so that they are always the focus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG8giVJKQPI and i like that the mike buble video showcases the musicianship of the song from all angles.

I'm not totally certain how

I'm not totally certain how the alien thing will play out, but if you want this to be the story it could be fun. I would like to understand more how we are introduced to the aliens, the dancers, and the conflict. You need to write the story first as if you were writing a short film. Scene 1, scene 2, etc. with short descriptions. This will help you ultimately storyboard this piece.

You also need to think of 4 setting for shooting this. I think music videos get a little old when they are in the same setting, especially if you are presenting choreography.

From our conversation, it seems that you want to highlight the following:

1) the musicians
2) the vocalist
3) the dancers
4) the alien story

As I suggested, the musicians could be studio recorded, and then video taped elsewhere, like lip syncing. Same with the vocalist. They could either be in the same or a different location as the dancers and aliens. You need to decide how they all interact in your video. Maybe there is one culminating location where everyone ends up (the stairs at the ICA?)

The dancers and the aliens at times could engage on the set, but I think it would be nice to have a location that is dedicated to just highlighting the dancers, some cool, suave place ala Beyonce.

next steps for this would be:
1) Approaching your teacher to secure a recording date for the group
2) location scouting places for the various shoots and getting permission
3) securing your dancers and developing the choreography
4) Storyboarding - I know this is somewhat tedious, but for a music video I feel it is needed. You want a new shot almost every second.
