sound design project concept
ideas include:
WHAT MAY BE HEARD BY A COMATOSE PATIENT, IN THE EVENT THAT THEY COULD HEAR
-loud sound, crash or explosion, to start audio
-early on, inaudible clatter, noises, prattle, yelling, etc. to suggest an event in which one may have been injured
-middle/body, shouting of doctors, pieces of information shedding light on the previously suggested "scene"
-voices of loved ones or other patients, people noticing or standing by, doctor maybe suggesting the subject's status
MODIFIED
-low hum of a car's engine, other car sounds, laughter, people
-radio(Ex-creations by TFOF)
-song cut-off by crash of cars, shattering of glass, crunching of metal, screams
-woman whispering, scared, breathing heavy, crescendo of silence, car sounds continue
-"Oh my God, there's an ambulance"
-quiet shouting of men, wrenching open of door
-rustling of clothing, man being pulled from the car, clatter of a stretcher hitting the ground
-ambulance doors shut, clothing being torn, more shouting about medical things(audio begins to quiet, choir music fades in)
-beeping of heartbeat, "Get him an IV"
-"let's do this, clear!"
-three times rubbing and jolting
-all audio gives way completely to choir track, which ends soon thereafter .
MODIFIED AGAIN
-car sounds
-radio(Ex-Creations by The Fall Of Troy)
-crash, all tracks slowed down and modified to a kind of lower tone, slowed heavy breathing
-fade out
-a couple seconds of silence, fade in of beeping, which will continue throughout the audio
-(muffled/low man's voice) "Can we go in?"
-opening of door, barely audible footsteps
-heavy sigh, scraping of chair legs
-Woman: "Would it be cliche to say that he looks peaceful?"
Man: "(Laughs). Hey could you turn that up, I like this song."
-In Fear And Faith by Circa Survive slowly becomes audible, but still very low
-A couple seconds where only the song is heard
-Woman:"This is a cool song. (Pause) Remember when we were younger, whenever we had nothing to do, we just went to the park?"
-Man 2: "(Sigh) Yeah, and it would always turn out being really fun, and we would, like, stay until it got dark, and then we would go watch a movie or something, and... (Trails off)"
-Ruffle of clothing
-Standing up
-Man 1:"Where do you think i could get an apple?"
-(awkward conversation continuing or ending soon, with the song.)

Monty, I like the concept. I
Monty,
I like the concept. I might suggest focusing only on one part. Is this something that you have personal experience with, either you or someone you know? It is a mystery what people here in an a subconscious environment, so you could also play a little with the supernatural or spiritual.
if you were to focus on only one part of the timeline above, which would be the most interesting to you?
If you don't know anyone who has experienced this, how might you approach doing some research on it?

Monty! This a totally heavy
Monty!
This a totally heavy sound design project! I like it!
This is a really interesting topic to play with because for the most part none of us have any experience with this sort of physical travesty so it will be up to you to invent the experience yourself.
I don't know if you have already seen the movie " The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" but it is a beautiful film that came out only a couple years ago about a man who becomes completely paralyzed and the first half of the movie is seen through his eyes being unable to move or speak. The rest of it is about how he learns to communicate through strange blinking patterns and write a whole book this way. Anyways, your project reminded me of this because even though visuals are incorporated it gives you a first person account of the restrictions of being able to see and hear but not interact. Something interesting that is done is that you can hear the mans thoughts while he is watching what is going on. I was wondering if that was something you would consider as apart of the audio? Maybe its worth checking out part of the movie just for some inspiration!
Looking forward to talking to you more about this!

Monty! Huge improvements! You
Monty!
Huge improvements! You have layed this out quite nicely! I'm so excited to finally read the specifics! I think you have everything mapped out really well. I am still torn between two things though maybe you can help me out...
My first reaction to the dialogue between the two people is that I love how nonchalant they are about the fact that they are visiting a coma patient. I love that they just talk about music and apples and the woman is actually concerned about sounding cliche when she is visiting someone that is close to dying. I thought that was a nice touch and I'm always pushing for there to be more work for the audience in figuring out what is going on. But then I started thinking about it and was wondering if there was any way there was a slight mention of an accident or if the people having the conversation should mention the patient at all (referring to him as a relative or a friend or something) but without getting into much detail about the accident or making it too obvious. You've already done such a good job in painting a scene for us without getting cheesy. Maybe it needs one more detail or line or something to help shed a tiny bit of light on the situation. But maybe you can prove me wrong!
Anyways talk to you more in class!

Monty! Wow! Even more
Monty!
Wow! Even more improvements! This is really coming together nice and clean. You are fleshing out ideas concisely and I'm so excited! I love the idea of slowing down the tracks during the crash. I think it's a very inventive way to illustrate the crash without being cheesy. Also you put in the perfect amount of clues to help enforce what's going on in the story. Not over the top- just enough to get an idea of what's going on without someone spoon feeding it to you. I tried to check out the pdf but it didn't work. Oh well! Looking forward to seeing what you got over the week!
