Shepard Fairey/Obey

I always viewed Obey as a stand for dictatorship or progression, but after seeing the show my whole view changed. The first few rooms went as i expected an assortment of campaigns towards dictatorship and the injustices in the world, but how I saw everything changed when I saw a poster of Pac in the same room as a poster of Zeppelin. I started looking around and would see people of their times that used their position to try and stand up for what they believed in, and realized that Shepard Fairey is just speaking the truth and created an everlasting imprint for these figures who tried to change the world, no matter how different each was had the same goal to better everything around them, which is hard for a lot of people to do now days, and for that I commend him.

Hey Nick!
I agree with you about how Fairey chooses the subjects of his pieces and didn't actually realize it until you had mentioned this in class. It is very interesting and important who he is representing and what they represent to us. I was wondering about your thoughts on his medium. Visually and aesthetically, what kind of imprint did it leave on you. Why do you think this style of presenting these people was effective as opposed to painting, sculpture, photography, and so forth. How was this propaganda/ poster/ advertisement style carrying the message that you mentioned before?
