Endocrine Disruptors- Final Piece
This piece will be short educational film about the issue of endocrine disruptors in our society and environment. (Endocrine disruptors are substances that act like hormones in the endocrine system and disrupt the physiologic function of hormones).
Description:
I will introduce the topic of endocrine disruptors by briefly sharing a personal story about DES.
Using interviews with experts and maybe everyday people, the film will address the very pertinent issue of endocrine disruptors in our environment. Several questions that will be looked at include: what are endocrine disruptors, how do they work, what effects do they have, and in what products are endocrine disruptors found. I will then focus on a specific endocrine disruptor, Bisphenol A (BPA), and look at where that is found and the controversy around the evidence that indicates that BPA may cause developmental problems in fetuses and young children.
In addition to reporting on and educating people about the issue of endocrine disruptors, the purpose of the film is to encourage people to modify their product purchases and to advocate for the passing of laws to prohibit these chemicals.
