Jian Mei's sound ideas
I want to make a surround sound piece about my hate of telemarketers and unimportant messages. It gets on my nerves. I come home every night, and the first thing I do is listen to the never ending parade of messages that's don't apply to me or my family. With the piece, I want to show how I feel and how the telemarketer must feel when he must call. Doing something he knows everyone hates for a living.
This will not be funny; I will make it serious. No video other than a slowly zooming in picture of my answering machine that fades in and out. Seeing, as how I want to only use a few sources. (about 5-15)
Tell me what you think.

"I LOVE this. Most important thing: are you going to use existing calls that have been recorded, or are you going to generate a script and have people act it out?
This will be a sound only project, so there won't be any image whatsoever.

I am either going to record it normally and then add effects to it, to give the illusion a answering machine. Or, I will take the recordings and put them through my answering machine. Yes, there will be a script that I will have people act out.
"What sounds will be in your piece? Make a list of 'em. Will you narrate? Will your piece be more narrative or experimental in nature? I like your idea a lot. What will it sound like in the end?

I will of course, have recorded voice clips of people pretending to be telemarketers. It's a more experimental piece that will not be narrated. Sounds will range from the ringing of the phone to my mom yelling in chinese.
"How will you "show how you feel"? What if you layered the audio of the messages on top of each other? I like the idea of hearing you answering the phone when a telemarketer calls. You'll have to get someone to act that out, though, so you don't get arrested for recording someone without their consent.. haha... I have had jobs related somewhat to telemarketing, and if you want input on the kinds of conversations had on the other side of things let me know.

I will not be in this piece at all; It's suppose to be me listening to all the messages that have been recorded. I have an odd idea for my feelings to be shown by the sad and depressing voice that the person playing the telemarketer has. In this piece he is also my parallel, and the way I planned out my piece, the listener will not be able to distinguish who is who.
