Goals
There are many aspects of film that attract a Roscoe. Creating an idea of your own, and adapting it to film helps you express yourself and helps you respect your inner creativity. All humans are born with a brain and a handful choose to use them. It is important for me to be busy. Film allows me to let all my creations come to life. It can be music, cinematography, or acting. limits are something i try to stray from.

I like this statement. It is
I like this statement. It is important to understand why you are drawn to a certain artform. I do need you to be specific about your goals and ideas for this year.
I need you to now list the following three things in a new blog post:
1) Artistic goal for the year - what do you want to accomplish as an artist (ex. experiment with composition, produce a documentary, make my audience laugh, enter my work into a film festival)
2) Technical Goal for the year - what is one main thing you want to learn about the equipment (ex. have perfect sound, use photoshop with final cut pro)
3) Present your first thoughts for a final piece - List out some basic ideas, or draft a short paragraph which decribes the general concept of the theme, whether it is the basic story, or the visual look)
Please have this done ASAP, but no later than 12/9.
My artistic goal for the ICA
My artistic goal for the ICA Fast forward program this year is to make a film that is edited, written, and directed to my standards. These include correct use of the English language to convey the point I am trying to make in the script, proper editing or in other words editing the way I see the piece in my head and not letting technical difficulties stand in the way. (no half assing during the editing process). The directing will be done to my expectations, meaning that i will re-shoot a scene until it is exactly the way I want it.
The lowdown here is that I want to make a film that I am happy with. In order for that to happen, there is an aspect of perfection that I want to achieve while I am here.
As a final piece, i would really like to have an outstanding film that uses mostly imagery. Some of the ideas i have had consist of the following:
A young boy goes on a trip with his parent, he starts to have vivid painfull hallucinations, he ends up in a hospital where he looks into a mirror and sees his own future. He sees his own death, and then sees the end of the world from outer space. Obviously this type of project would require a large budget witch is why it would use mostly imagery.
Anther idea I had this year was to make a film in witch two kids attempt to steal a computer and a robot/bondage fiend takes them to hell because of there heinous acts. It their hell they become what destroys them and in turn live life as a tortured victims of a world known to men as the worst place in the spiritual realm. They are forced to do tasks for satin. Naturally this could be a touchy subject for some people this is why imagery would be good for it. It would allow more ideas to come fourth to the viewer rather then having it automatically being a touchy subject.
With all this said, I would like to make these things happen, I know that they will require allot of work, but I am willing to put fourth the time and energy for filming, and making my projects unique, and recognizable for viewers. I also plan on becoming a millionaire and buying the ICA. Just kidding.
Hey Noah, Your ideas are
Hey Noah,
Your ideas are pretty far out! I'm glad you recognize the kind of work that they would take and even happier to hear that you are going to put everything you've got to make it happen! You have a lot of confidence and high standards for yourself and I respect that.
I was wondering what you meant by imagery. Do you mean that these are effects that you will make up to act as impressions of the idea? Or some kind of animation to illustrate for example what the boy sees in the mirror? I guess I am just curious to hear how you would plan to show the end of the world from outer space. Anyways I think your first idea sounds the easiest of the two to visually construct. They both are very heavy plots!
Are you thinking that it will be a narrative piece or more experimental? Is it a message where the audience will be free to interpret or are you going to be very plain in suggesting what is going on?
How did you come up with these plots? Are you basing this off of something or someone? What kind of style are you shooting it in?
Can't wait to hear more!
Always stray from limits and don't worry about being touchy.

OH BOY. I'm glad I read this
OH BOY. I'm glad I read this today. I'm in the right state of mind to be answering questions.
first off,
fight against the industry, this means do things to create emotion in the audience, preferably strong emotions of hate or love or whatever. No Hollywood story.
Imagery for me is to have a piece of something that does not actually have a set meaning for the audience, but does for me. This makes everyone able to interpret in their own personal way, the story. I think letting people make up their own plot is amazing because it allows a level of enjoyment for people who might not like the original idea.
You could show a coffee cup being filled and the white cup represents the shell of an egg which represents the earths surface for outer space and the black coffee being poured in could mean death because black is the color of darkness and darkness=fear (for most folks). Colors are very good at representing things.
Here is my favorite quote from one of my favorite people in the world "Alejandro Jodorowsky" I feel like its representative of everything I want to do in film. I only wish I could have known this years ago.
"I want to do an experience, the only way to do movies. Not to tell any story, and then I organize a story inside the picture who is not to tell any story's to give to the audience but give an experience." I mean hes obviously a little cracked out, but I think hes an amazingly smart person.
I don't like the term experimental. I feel like there was a point in my life where i could experiment, but its time to actually make experience and not experiment.
Experimenting is something you do for recreational purpose and not for work.
Film is work, but I love work.
When i come up with my ideas, its usually through dreaming. I have a journal that i keep next to my bed where i write down all the dreams i have, sometimes I have a dream and when i wake i stem off ideas from it.
Sometimes when i go on trips around Boston or anywhere I keep a journal to write down ideas also.
