First Blog Post
At the moment, I've written a script for the piece I will be making this year. Though, I am still working out whether or not I will use the script, or make major modifications to it. At the moment, the script is about a teen who works at a restaurant and meets a woman who comes by and this starts a story between them.
My artistic goal for the year: I want to be as ambitious as possible, yet realistic at the same time. I want to make a piece that is simple in story and plot, yet is a wonderful story and ride for the audience at the same time. I was initially inspired by Frank Capra, and it would be cool to combine that inspiration along with others.
My technical goal for the year: Try to mix two styles of filmmaking, one that is on top of everything: storyboards, shot by shots lists and the best equipment the ICA has to offer. And, my freedom as a director, being able to feel confident and ambitious. I want to find a balance between the way I've shot some of my films before, with nothing but an idea in mind, and other films that have required more pre-production work.

E-mail problems
Sorry I had to contact you like this. For some reason, when I try to reply back to you it doesn't work. We can meet up on Thursday; the only real problem is where to meet up.
Hey Cory, I think the balance
Hey Cory, I think the balance between relying too heavily on storyboards and being too free leads to a wonderfully organized, yet creative set. It's a good goal. The way to get there is to be comfortable with both the subject you are shooting and the equipment you are using, along with having the right people on the set with you that can add to the creative pool of ideas. Assemble a good team!
Can you post your updated script onto your blog?
I echo Joe - post your new
I echo Joe - post your new script! I'm eager to see how you've changed it and love that you have already done multiple drafts. That's the key to good writing sometimes.
I just sent along the same link to Hazel, but check out Andrew Katz's blog from 2007 -- he storyboards MAY/Cause, but also doesn't stick too rigidly to them. Check it:

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with this year.
