Final Project Purpose

The purpose of my emo documentary is to debunk all of the untrue stereotypes about the emo culture. I think is important because the emo culture has gone main stream and a lot of people seem to have forgot what the emo culture really is. Also, the emo culture is one of the most hated sub-cultures in the world right now and all the haters are really ignorate about the culture. I have a few people I want to interview. I want to interview my friend Alex, because he fits the physical stereotype of emo, but he doesn’t consider himself emo. I think he’ll be good in saying why he doesn’t consider himself emo and what he think emo really is. I also want to interview his girlfriend Roisin, because she could have similar insight on Alex. Also, Roisin considers herself emo so I want to know what about herself she thinks is emo. I think I will be a good person to interview because I’ve been around a lot of people who are “emo” and also, based on my interpretation of emo, I consider myself emo, but I don’t have the look of it at all. I also have two friends, Charlie and Peter, who fit the look of emo. I don’t know if the consider themselves emo but both are very knowledgeable about the culture. I also have a friend, Devin, who hates emos and I want to see why he hates them so much. I want to know what about the emo culture he doesn’t like and see if his reasons are stereotypes or real.
I also think it would be good to interview random people to see how the general public approves of emos. I think it would be best to get a wide range of ages from teenagers to old people to see how answers vary with age.

Jeremy! I think you have the right idea about the variety of people you will need to talk to to make this documentary. Of course its good to have those who fit the stereotype so that we can understand what the true definition of emo is. But also I think it's equally as important to have people more ignorant to the culture talking about what characteristics they think make up this subculture. Also how do you know it is the most hated subculture in the world?
Are there any shows that you can go to to interview people or show the kind of music in a live setting? They don't even have to be big name bands it might be cooler just to see people your age and what they are doing now. Is there an evolution of emo? When and why did it start? Does it have different ideas now than it did when it started?
Also, when you were saying that you wanted to debunk some of the stereotypes- maybe you can also explain some of the stereotypes and how they came to be and if they are true, why they aren't bad. Do you know what I mean? Even if some of the things emos are made fun of for are true, it might be helpful to know why they do certain things and why it's good.
Talk to you soon!

I think it would also be cool

I think it would also be cool to see how emo culture is portrayed in the media, by the major news organizations. Also, it would be cool to see if the person that you interview that's ignorant of the culture has changed their views upon it after learning a bit more about it. It would be cool to see a before and after interview. It's something to consider.
