Final Project
I have two ideas for my final project so far. It would be a documentary on the sixties. The problem is that I have no footage of the sixties, so even if I get some good interviews, I wouldn't have any sixties footage to add.
My other idea is a documentary on high school life. I could interview lots of high school student and get some good footage from my high school. The problem with that is that I wouldn't have footage from any other schools, which would be really helpful. Especially because my high school isn't really a "classic" high school. What I could do is compare my school to some more "classic" high schools, but I still think it would be really helpful to have footage on other schools.
What I would like to do is come up with a few more ideas and find out where I could get some footage on the sixties so I have more ideas available to me when its time to pitch ideas.

Hey Jeremy! Happy New
Hey Jeremy! Happy New Year!
The sixties is definitely one of the more interesting and exciting decades to talk about but it is also a pretty broad one. Are there specific things that happened in this decade that you would like to narrow it down to? Something you can ask people you are interviewing where they were for this event, or do they remember a certain even that happened (I'm guessing you would be talking to people closer to our parents' age about this). So there are obviously many roads you could go down with this and I think until you narrow it down a little more it will be difficult to say how to go about making this documentary. As far as 60s footage I know there are a few royalty free stock footage websites that you can download clips from. I have emailed an old teacher about this because I can't remember the addresses anymore but I know some people that have built whole projects only using this. I think if the 60s is something that interests you it can easily be made into a great documentary! Now the trick is just finding an interesting angle to look at the decade, or even how growing up in that decade has shaped our parents and what they are like today. What is similar to historical, social, and political events then and now? There are actually a surprising amount of similarities! Barack has been compared to Kennedy. Vietname- Iraq. Civil Rights- gay rights. Subcultures like hippies and hipsters. Use your unique way of seeing things to come up with an interesting and new angle to this revolutionary decade.
The high school idea is also an interesting idea. How is your high school different from "classic" high schools? Why do you feel that just shooting your high school is not sufficient enough on it's own and makes you want to have footage from other high schools? It might be interesting just to see what a non traditional high school is like since so many people just go to regular high schools. The high school idea would definitely give you more control over the footage that you have since you would be able to shoot it all yourself instead of search for it.
A good way to narrow things down is to make lists of all the different subtopics of each of these ideas. What are the different angles you would be interested in taking? Then which ever list proves to have more material might be the better one to go with.
Good luck!
