final draft to documentary
Outline:
My documentary looks into how my generation feels about the recession, and to get a feeling of the people that are in store for the hardest time to come and how they are preparing for it. I will take a look into their lives and how each character currently lives, and what hardships they have right now due to the time and economic situation and as well as other problems that might be affected by all of it. I will follow them around on their daily activities to get a feeling on how they live, and I want each character to be completely unique and have their own aura to who they are and what they stand for.
Message:
I want the audience in the end to feel as if they understand and can compare themselves to each of the characters, and understand what their life is like and be able to relate to them. As well as understand that life is hard for all of the characters and even though they are completely different people they all have similar situations and problems they have to deal with.
Characters:
Bryan Bresnihan- an African American intellectual, who lives in a hood type neighborhood and deeply, cares about everyone around him. He represents a strong person who deals with all of life’s problems and does all he can to solve them
Frank Chen- an Asian American who is deeply involved with school and extra curricular activities such as student government. He is the person who gets along with everyone and no one dislikes. He represents a person who is in a more businessman aura and he can influence almost anybody as well as deal with all the other problems around him.
Estefany Benitez- a Hispanic girl who has a very pleasing aura, which is always happy or bright. Also a poet and has a fitted view upon how she sees the world. She represents a female view upon it as well as she is a carefree character who is always joyful and offers some relief for the other characters problems and troubles.
Cody Hartke- He is a White boy who goes to the hood everyday for school, who’s parents are divorced, one who is a successful lawyer while the other a parent who wants to help people but having trouble getting by and lost her job recently. He represents a look into it from not a person of color but also a view upon it of the believed to be most successful and dominant heritage of this nation as well as a character who is trying to better himself and adapt to the changes in his life and the world.

Nick, This is developing
Nick,
This is developing well. The four characters seem to represent diverse backgrounds, while they are all geographically connected. I like this.
I am stil unclear about what we will be seeing and hearing. I need to know a couple of things now:
WHAT ARE THE QUESTIONS YOU WILL BE ASKING
You have described the overall message, but I need to now know the specific issues you want to bring up.
WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC SITUATIONS YOU WANT TO VIDEOTAPE EACH PERSON IN
This should be different for each person and should be dictated by what you want them to represent. Pick these situations very deliberately. If Cody's relationship with his parents is an important aspect to his character, then you want to make sure you video tape him interacting with his parents.
I am wondering if the relationship with the parent could be a neat angle for each person. If you interview both the youth and the parent individually, then you get not only the youth perspective, but also the parent's hopes, dreams, fears for their child's generation as they face this crisis.
Something to think about.
You need to start shooting this this week, so I need to see and approve the questions, as well as see a production schedule. Make each of these a separate blog post with those titles.
Good work so far.
Hey Nick! I hope all is going
Hey Nick!
I hope all is going well with shooting interviews and what not. Can't wait to hear about it! I hope you have been able to get more footage of people in their natural environments to help illustrate their background in order to strengthen what they are saying.
I think something that is really helpful to do in shoot and especially in editing is to pick a phrase/ thesis statement to keep you focused on what you need to show and prevent you from drifting into a tangent which is unrelated to your original intent. This is easy to slip into. The first sentence that you wrote in this entry would be a good one to write down. Keep it visible on a piece of paper taped to your computer or something so that it is always in your brain.
HOW MY GENERATION FEELS ABOUT THE RECESSION AND HOW THEY ARE PREPARING FOR IT.
bam.
solid.
sweet.
