You have a very successful

mstilesroyall's picture

You have a very successful rough cut here, Robin! I really love the the visual effect you used to distinguish the present moment from the memories. It sets a beautiful, nostalgic mood without being cheesy. And like Rene mentioned, you could even play around with the adjustment levels of the effect a little more.

Obviously, I'm mostly curious about your sound. Are you going to use music? I think the right music could work really well in your memory scenes...and perhaps provide more contrast to the present moment shots of the girls standing side by side. And of course, I'm really curious about what the letter says!

I know you were playing around with jump cuts earlier, and I think you should keep experimenting with that. Some of your scenes do start to feel monotonous, and a couple of the set-ups (when the girls are dancing and playing in the yard) feel a little bit contrived. Getting creative with your editing could really help with this. And I do think you were on to something with the jump cuts...but they seem to be more successful when the jumps are BIGGER. Just something to think about.

Very striking shots, I do

Very striking shots, I do like the effect of the over brightness, lose the car in the 2nd shot.

I like the perspectives and composition of most of the shots. The one of the girls standing outside with snow behind them not so much. Except for the close-ups. The other shots are pretty strong.

Lose the moments when the actors look at the camera.

Rene: Play more with the light adjusting and readjusting more for fluidity
