Friday Night Car Rides

-Doors opening then closing, people getting in the car
-Car starting
-Friends talking
-Taco Bell drive thru (?)
-Fighting over music
-Power windows going down, other cars passing
-Arriving somewhere

No real message? Just insight into teenagers/driving, etc? Stereo sound is fine, doesn't necessarily have to be surround

This sounds fun. I like the

This sounds fun. I like the drive through moment a lot. THere's some great sounds there. It could even be all about that moment.

Think of some even smaller sound details...

I think you have a really

I think you have a really solid idea of what to do. I think the list sounds great, especially because there is a narrative already there; there's an order to the sounds (first you open the door, etc). I think the order of the sounds will be the story in itself.

I love this idea and think it

I love this idea and think it has a lot of potential. There's something about riding around in cars that's innate to adolescence - my friends and I often did that in high school, stopping by Taco Bell for mexi-melts.

Are you documenting an actual Friday night car ride with your friends or are you staging it?
One thing to consider when recording in a car is that you'll hear the sound of the different gear shifts being made, which makes it hard to edit smoothly. You might want to record a bunch of car sounds without talking separately so you have more to play with (same can be said for recording the talking - might want to do this in the car when it's not moving). We can talk more! Great list of sounds.

Smaller sounds: Clicking of

Smaller sounds:
Clicking of iPod wheel/Inserting of CD
Shifting of gears (Park to drive, drive to park, etc.)
Voice at drive thru
Eating? (sound of wrappers- chewing would be disgusting)

I can document an actual Friday night, but obviously I will have to alert my friends that I'll be recording it so that we can try to keep most conversation on a more PG rated level. Maybe it would be beneficial to record the conversation and dialogue while we're in a parked car or inside somewhere, that way there is no interference.
I will record a car ride without anyone in the car and get those sounds.
