Thanks Volvox! Brek. One on the way!

Hey guys. Hope you had a relaxing week off. Thanks again to Eli for coming in and giving us some basic history on dance music. And thanks to Jamie and Volvox for filling in for me on Wendesday while I was out of town. To my Wednesday group, we'll have Eli in on May 6th to give you the same rundown he did for my Saturday class. And to my Saturday people, I'll see about getting Volvox to come in and do the same. In the meantime here's a link to Volvox's myspace and her latest live set from her residency at Make It New. Be sure to check these out!

THIS WEEK: We're going to get a little reggae familiar with my man Brek.One. Brek is equally as diverse as our guests thus far, but got his start DJing with one of Boston top reggae soundsystems which gives him an interesting outlook on modern reggae and soundclash styles. He'll tell us a little about his background as well as his current career rocking downtown hotspots as well as bars and venues all over. Peep out Brek's website and myspace for some background.

And for those totally unfamiliar with the reggae soundsystem movement (and the origin of all DJing) check out this clip from discovery channel profiling the oldest sound system in Kingston Jamaica, Stone Love. We'll hear more about this in this coming week's class. See you all then!
