This is my audio project for Fast Forward 2011. I chose to do a piece playing with how sound builds tension, especially in relation to dialogue. I created a soundscape to build upon and mimic the rising tension of a conversation between a brother and sister. As the conversation reaches its climax, the sounds become most intense.

Robin!
Thank you for posting your audio project!
This piece made me feel many things... mostly tension! It also made me feel a little jipped...
I felt that the content of the conversation was a little weak and poorly acted. But that's not even really a problem. Part of this class is learning to work with what you got, and when you've only got your classmates, you learn how to work with that! So I'm obviously not expecting a Broadway performance here... but the most intense and interesting part of the conversation is almost completely inaudible and then the brother's reaction is very audible but not very reactionary. I understand that you were playing with the idea of syncing the background noises to the building tension of the conversation but I really don't see how not hearing the root of the whole problem of the situation presented, fits in. What if the background audio got louder as well as the conversation getting louder and then dying down when Dimitri says "Ok I gotta go, nice to see you sis"? Instead of the background audio sort of replacing the sister saying "Im pregnant".
You have good writing skills and great ideas and a great sense of capturing emotion. It seems to be a subject that you are drawn to and I think it's for a good reason! I really really loved how you orchestrated the water sound effects to build with the conversation. I think that was all done beautifully. I just really want to hear a good argument for why you would drop such a crucial part of the conversation!
