3 general ideas for the final project.

so here are a few ideas, just gonna throw them out on the stoop see if the cat licks em up:

  1. a 1920s mystery... lots of cool costumes involved, guy bourdin type stills. maybe nameless characters who fit the stereotypical classic mystery type roles, sort of clue-esque. i'm thinking the beginning/the entire thing would be very confusing, either silent or with soft, mysterious music. kind of like in the beginning of wait until dark ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSrfbtyMVTI ). and the characters would be doing things on thier own, separate from each other and seemingly unrelated, until they meet at the same location. this idea is more feel, more atmosphere, than actual plot.

  2. some sort of quirky, funny valentine, Amelie type romance. short and sweet. just two characters.

  3. this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSrfbtyMVTI
it's from one of my favorite movies, this dialogue at the beginning, and i love it. her attitude, her humor. kind of bratty, but still so honest. i'd love to recreate it somehow, do something a little different but keep the actual dialogue. can i do that? that's not plagiarizing is it, if i only use the text and make sure to give credit to the film, have a disclaimer or something too?

... i'm not really passionate about any of these at the moment partly because none of them are too specific. i would like to think some more.

Mimi!
Hope you had some great holidays! I missed ya!
I'm really pumped about these video project ideas. I like the direction of the first and third idea and how they are mystery and thriller related! I have never seen Wait Until Dark but i started watching the clip you posted and now I'm really jazzed to finish it. I'm going right home to do that after class! What I like the most about your comments in idea#3 is that even though you are really drawn to the whole film, it seems that you are especially drawn to a certain emotion or feeling that is displayed or that you get by watching the film and in particular this opening scene. I think you have a knack for it especially after being involved in your audio project. I think that it would be a really interesting project to maybe emphasize or put that feeling under a microscope and solely focus on that being the theme of your project. This is still an insanely vague idea but you're on to something. Now I ask: what is it in that scene that cat ches your eye? What is the feeling of the scene that you would want to recreate? There is something unspoken in there, I feel it too, but I'm not quite sure what it is yet... I think you know. We should definitely talk more about option #3 more in class! I"m so psyched! The other ones are also interesting but: #1 I think you would end up spending too much time trying to devise a mystery and find enough actors and it just might be too hard to pull something with so many variables off in such a short amount of time #2 even though i love those movies i think it would be too easy to fall into a trap of making something very similar to what has already been done. You are so observant and tuned in to those little details I think the third option would give you so much more room to be inventive and it is subtle and simple enough to not take too much production time so you are able to really dive into all aspects of the project like costume, set, editing, sound, and so forth.
Ok enough babbling for now. We'll brook soon!

hey mimi
ok i m going to let you in on a little secret. i don't understand the internet! i just found out something huge right now: that we could be having a conversation under different blog post headings so im suppossed to check all the blog posts to see if you wrote back to me! not just read the new ones! man! i probably had so many letters and i just thought you guys thought i was the annoying one that wrote all the time. sheesh...
so i wanted to apologize for never writing back! i just watched the lee ranaldo the notebook thing. so cool! unfortunately i couldn't get the sound to come on joes computer but it was pretty amazing silent. i like that this is what you were referencing for inspiration too. i feel that for projects its important to acknowledge inspirations from all different mediums because there is usually a lot more involved than you think, if you really think about it.
anyways i will be better about reading all the blog posts! also so glad you were able to catch the hermeto pascoal clip! pretty far out huh?
