Respect

This is an anti-bullying public service announcement. Bullying is an issue that has risen to a prominent position in society, but its consequences only seem to bother people when associated with news headline stories. Bullying isn’t just something you see on the news in a traumatic story- yes it causes trauma, but it exits in forms that many people are so used to seeing they do not even recognize.

Film Treatment

A Story of a Stapler
The purpose of this film is to subtly prod people to become more perceptive of the presence of bullying in schools. In order to accomplish this goal, it is disguised as a fun, short film in order to infiltrate the viewers mind. This is because a lot of people close their minds to public service announcements and things that they anticipate might be moderately tough to swallow.

Final Video Ideas

Primary Idea:

Sound Project

This is an experience I had this summer when I went to Peru. I thought that taking just the audio would represent the emotions I felt as I experienced it, because for most of it I either was looking down towards the ground or had my eyes closed.

Description of what I want to represent with sound:

I Don't Know: A Social Exploration of Islam

This documentary looks at how Islam is perceived by high school teenagers, and how a Muslim teenager responds to its perception. It takes a look at how much is known about Islam in general, and delves into whether or not learning more about it is something teenagers would be interested in. In addition to this, it shows how a Muslim teenager reacts to common stereotypes about his religion, as well as the requirements of being a teenager scholar and practitioner.

Update

Survey Conducted, results analyzed and recorded
Interview with one student conducted.
Also uploaded to ICA comp.
Tomorrow 2 interviews with two other students will conclude the interviews with people about what they wrote on their slips of paper for the survey.

Left to do: Main interview. Scheduled for Tuesday of this week.

Update on Schedule

Week of 2/1 -

Go through my grade and get as many as possible to write one word or phrase that first comes to mind when they hear the word "Muslim." This will be done by a combination of a box and slips in the library and me personally approaching people throughout the day. I've done surveys through the library before and they have adults there to make sure kids don't enter multiple slips or say anything that is just plain silly and not serious.

2/5
All questions for interview written and posted on blog. Also passed by interviewee.

A Few Scenarios

A couple of scenarios/ideas, not sure where they will lead or if they will, but once they are on paper it might work better.

One Nation Many Voices

I have a friend who is Muslim and I am going to collaborate with him.

Entry One

I aspire to meet many goals this year. In terms of technical goals, overall I want to gain a better understanding of how to manipulate the camera in a more manual and customizable way. While I know how to operate most of the manual functions of the camera, I seldom use them during a shoot. Really, I've only used them for achieving depth of field and other similar effects. I would like to operate the camera in a more hands on way in my piece to develop my own unique style as an artist.
